Confidence in Community: Alix Li’s Transformative Journey with Shupin

Meet Alix Li

Alix Li is thriving. Since joining JFCS’ Shupin Community and moving into Ady’s Place, she has embraced every opportunity—becoming a regular at yoga and dance, shining at improv night, and, with support from Shupin’s career counselor, landing a new job at a local daycare.

Her journey with Shupin began in 2024, when she first connected through virtual events hosted by the Shupin Social Club—JFCS’ social program for neurodivergent young adults. After moving into Ady’s Place in July 2025, Alix Li found herself in a supportive environment where she could build friendships, try new experiences, and grow her confidence.

With encouragement from Shupin staff and peers, she became more active in community life. She began showing up for classes, social events, and new challenges with enthusiasm. At the same time, she worked closely with Shupin’s Career and Employment Specialist, who supported her through every step of the job search process—from applications to interviews to direct outreach with employers. That support helped her secure a role at a local daycare, where she has since excelled and earned a promotion.

“Shupin community has helped me with my organization skills, life skills, social skills and doing self-care. I feel my kitchen skills have grown. I also have grown to know people who I choose to interact with, and I also am learning more about financial topics even though I am still making mistakes, but I am learning from them.”

Alix Li’s success reflects what’s possible when adults with developmental disabilities have the power of community behind them. Through integrated housing, career coaching, and meaningful social connection, JFCS helps participants build confidence, independence, and joyful, self-directed lives.

At JFCS’ Shupin Community, you’ll find a one-of-a-kind support system designed for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
