JFCS Helps During a Life Crisis
  • Financial Assistance
  • Nutrition Program
  • People with Disabilities

Steven, a professional architect and father, first called JFCS when his medical issues became debilitating. He had lost his job and to make matters worse, he and his wife had just divorced. With these major life stressors, Steven’s health further deteriorated and his savings was spent paying bills and child support. At 52 he says, “I had been totally self-sufficient my whole life, until I had these health issues.”

Since calling JFCS, Steven has benefited from the food pantry and food vouchers, rental assistance, and, most importantly, case management. The JFCS Clinical Care Team has been his advocate and cheerleader, providing emotional support while guiding Steven to create practical short- and long-term financial goals.

Now Steven’s chronic health issue has stabilized, and he is paying off his debts and focusing his energy on landing another job.

Steven says that the care and resources have been important. “It’s not always easy being on this end of things and accepting the help. But when you don’t have family to help you for whatever reason, JFCS is invaluable—they really care.”

If you or someone you know is going through a difficult time in life, contact JFCS to see how we can help.
