Driver – KMOW and Rides

With over 40 programs and services supporting home care for seniors, therapy for children, youth volunteer programs, services for people with disabilities, and so much more.


JOB TITLE: Driver – KMOW and Rides
REPORTS TO: Director of Nutrition Programs
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Part-time with no benefits
JOB LOCATION: San Francisco, Marin, and Peninsula
SHIFT:  Part-time 15 – 20 hours per week. Monday – Friday 9:30 am to 2:00 pm (hours may vary)

The Driver supports the Kosher Meals on Wheels program and the JFCS Rides program. The Driver is responsible for ensuring that meals are delivered to clients in a timely, safe and efficient manner. The JFCS meal program serves adults and seniors throughout the city of San Francisco, bringing meals and groceries from the JFCS Food Bank on a weekly basis. In the Rides program, the Driver is responsible for ensuring passengers are picked up and arrive at locations safely. Both programs support the reduction of isolation and enhance activities of daily living for seniors.

  • Practices safety measures and standard driving procedures at all times
  • Ensures the van is clean inside and out, and always well fueled
  • Reports any mechanical problems or damage to the van, even minor damage, immediately to the Rides coordinator or their designee
  • Participates in the preventative maintenance schedule for JFCS vehicle
  • Delivers hot meals to clients Monday through Friday
  • Brings program supplies to the kitchen
  • Assist with the delivery of food-to-food bank members and to JFCS offices in Marin and on the Peninsula
  • Implements delivery routes that maximize the driver’s time
  • Ensures timely delivery of meals to individuals
  • Collaborates with other JFCS staff to ensure that client needs are met
  • Provides daily feedback to the Director of Nutrition Programs regarding client status and satisfaction
  • Provides assistance and support for JFCS programs as needed (food drives and food bank)
  • Participates in the preventative maintenance schedule for JFCS vehicles
  • Escorts clients safely and comfortably to their destination
  • Recognizes potential scheduling difficulties that may occur during the day due to problems with doctors’ offices or clients’ lateness, and troubleshoots any problems so that client needs are met, consulting the JFCS office
  • Reviews the daily schedule at least one day prior to identifying any potential problems and works with the Rides coordinator or their designee to address
  • Confirms all appointments with riders ahead of time, using downtime in the schedule to make calls
  • Plans daily routes and activities that efficiently use the driver’s time and ensure timely pick-up and delivery of passengers
  • Accurately represents the programs and the Agency to clients
  • Collaborates with other JFCS staff to ensure that client needs are met
  • Provides feedback to the coordinator regarding client status and satisfaction


  • Strong interest or background in working with seniors and adults with disabilities
  •  Current California driver’s license
  • Clean DMV record
  • Strong ability to work independently and use sound judgment
  • Ability to communicate well with seniors and establish rapport with clients
  • Cooperative, efficient and friendly
  • Interest in working in a social services setting
  • Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by the date of hire to be considered
