Jewish Chaplaincy Services
Visit with Jewish patients and their families at Stanford Hospital.
Become a Jewish spiritual care volunteer at Stanford Hospital, a rare opportunity to visit hospitalized Jewish patients and their families of all backgrounds at the bedside. Engage in the timeless mitzvah of “visiting the sick” tailored to the uniqueness of each patient. Provide a compassionate presence that includes a warm introduction and deep listening, and may include blessings and prayers, celebrating Shabbat and other holidays, and making meaningful connection to Jewish tradition and resources, synagogues and community organizations including JFCS’ wider network of volunteers and services.
Our Spiritual Care volunteers are drawn to be with people during life altering illness and trauma, to accompany them during moments ranging from loneliness and uncertainty to gratitude and holiness. Volunteers are open to learning and self-discovery. Specialized trainings and ongoing mentoring is provided by hospital chaplains and staff. We request a minimum commitment of one year, two shifts per month, 2 – 3 hours per shift.
