Staff Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Controller, the Staff Accountant performs a variety of accounting duties in the preparation, maintenance, and review of financial records and reports, which may include general accounting, internal control, capital assets, and payroll accounting. The Staff Accountant maintains, reconciles, and monitors accounting quality standards within the department and/or agency-wide; and provides general support in monthly and quarterly reconciliations, and other accounting tasks, including support for the cash receipts, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • Salary Range: $75,000-$85,000 (depending on experience)

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform accurate and timely end-to-end activities and functions related to JFCS’ weekly payroll processing, including processing manual checks as needed for terminations, corrections, or other special payroll checks according to JFCS policy and labor laws
  • Perform both pre- and post-payroll processing audits
  • Assist in preparing various journal entries (monthly, year-end, closing)
  • Monthly reconciliation of all finance operating bank accounts, credit card merchant accounts, medical/ dental/vision accounts, and other balance sheet accounts as assigned and needed
  • Respond to employees’ inquiries via phone or email regarding earnings, deductions, and taxes as they relate to their pay, how to enter time or time off, or direct employees to the proper HR Representatives
  • Serve as a backup and support to the Payroll Administrator for both JFCS and RGP and for various Finance and Administration Department functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash receipts, daily mail processing, and other department functions, as necessary

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field required
  • One to two years’ experience in accounting, or bookkeeping required
  • Minimum two years of working knowledge of payroll for 200+ employees required
  • General knowledge and experience in payroll concepts, practices, and procedures, and practical application of wage and hour laws in California required
  • Paylocity or other payroll and time, and labor systems experience preferred
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of internal controls required in a disbursement
