About JFCS’ Disabilities Services
Jewish Family and Children’s Services is dedicated to providing comprehensive services to children and adults with special needs. Services include care management, mental health counseling, support groups. money management, advocacy, and volunteer support.
The Gary Shupin Independent Living Community extends our Disabilities Services to include residential independent living, skills training, a community of peers, and a social club.
Gary Shupin Community provides a warm environment and the personalized support that enables adults with developmental disabilities to live independently and to enjoy the amenities of the San Francisco Bay Area.
About the Gary Shupin Community Program
Services for participants are tailored to each individual’s needs and promote maximum independence. JFCS’ trained and caring professionals work closely with residents to help develop their skills for employment, independent living, and community service.
Participants receive highly personalized training both at the residence and in everyday settings such as banks, supermarkets, and department stores, and on public transportation.
Our goal is to encourage community connection. Residents have the opportunity to participate in volunteer service, social and cultural events, and sports and recreational activities. They are encouraged to have jobs and to be self-sufficient. Jewish holidays are observed within a warm, communal setting, and residents are supported to be involved in Jewish life and culture in the Bay Area.
