Gary Shupin Community provides a warm environment and the personalized support that enables adults with developmental disabilities to live independently and to enjoy the amenities of the San Francisco Bay Area.

About the Gary Shupin Community Program

Services for participants are tailored to each individual’s needs and promote maximum independence. JFCS’ trained and caring professionals work closely with residents to help develop their skills for employment, independent living, and community service.

Participants receive highly personalized training both at the residence and in everyday settings such as banks, supermarkets, and department stores, and on public transportation.

Our goal is to encourage community connection. Residents have the opportunity to participate in volunteer service, social and cultural events, and sports and recreational activities. They are encouraged to have jobs and to be self-sufficient. Jewish holidays are observed within a warm, communal setting, and residents are supported to be involved in Jewish life and culture in the Bay Area.

About the Residence

The apartment building in San Francisco’s Laurel Village neighborhood includes four apartments. Residents may have a private, one-bedroom apartment or share a two-bedroom apartment. A maximum of six people can reside in the building. All apartments are filled with light and include kitchens and tiled bathrooms with bath and shower. Laundry facilities are available, and the secure complex includes a lovely private garden with brick patio. The building  is located just steps away from shops, public transportation, and the many cultural and recreational offerings at the Jewish Community Center.
