Director of Research and Training
Under the supervision of the Associate Executive Director, the Director of Research and Training has leadership and management responsibility for all aspects of professional training and research for the Center for Children and Youth. The Director of Research and Training is a member of the Center for Children and Youth leadership team and directly oversees all aspects of the operations of the Child Training Institute. The Director is responsible for program development and implementation, quality assurance, and establishment and achievement of financial goals for assigned programs.
The Director understands and assists in meeting budget and services goals, understands the mission and objectives of Jewish Family and Children’s Services and works within the limitations of the Agency’s resources and performs all duties in compliance with agency standards and is part of the Agency’s management team.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct all aspects of the Child Training Institute (CTI), providing best-in-class trainings for mental health providers, educators, and other professionals serving children and youth. Includes both opportunities for didactic learning and small group, professionally facilitated discussions as appropriate to program content.
- Identify emerging issues in the child development field and current training needs of community and staff clinicians, to inform the development of CTI program offerings. Identify, recruit and vet highly qualified experts to lead regularly held training seminars.
- Ensure programs meet all requirements for offering CE’s to broad range of professionals in the field, manage CE licenses with various state and national organizations.
- Oversee program delivery, whether remote or in person, to ensure that all aspect of the program are delivered with the highest degree of professionalism. Ensure that programs follow agency best practice guidelines for remote program offerings. Work with technical support staff to ensure smooth operations.
- Meet all work plan and budget goals for Child Training Institute. Evaluate program offerings with respect to participate satisfaction, learning and interests of program participants, refine program schedule based on feedback.
- Responsible for engagement with the CCY Expert Panel members, developing strong collaborative relationships that bring the work of the expert panelists to CCY audiences, through both training programs and content development for CCY communication vehicles.
- Develop and provide in-service trainings to CCY’s clinical staff to ensure that clinical staff are providing best practice care to clients and families. Bring together and also individually engage the expert panel and staff to create research groups to discuss issues of relevance to the work of CCY.
- Enhance the reputation of the Center for Children and Youth by undertaking and/or supporting quality research in child related fields, and communicating that research to the larger community. Lead strategic planning for research and training for the Center for Children and youth to ensure that the objectives are aligned with the larger strategic plan goals for the Center for Children and Youth.
- Promote and facilitate research in areas related to the goals of the Center for Children and Youth. Build strong linkages with researchers and academic departments locally, nationally and internationally who are engaged in cutting edge research on child development, in order to encourage the transfer of knowledge to the larger community, and directly partner in research efforts.
- Manage all research efforts effectively and efficiently, ensuring that accepted standards of research and ethical behavior are met.
- In collaboration with Development staff, creates and maintains support for development activities including fundraising and public relations in order to increase voluntary and monetary support for JFCS’ services.
- Works closely with the Marketing and Communications team to effectively market programs to potential participants to maximize audiences for major program offerings.
- Develops community support for assigned programs and services through lay committees and individuals, as Develops opportunities to seek grant funding for specific projects.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Up to date knowledge of best practices in the field of child development as well as promising, newly emerging practices.
- Ability to interface with and build effective working relationships with high level experts in the field of child development and agency lay leaders.
- Knowledge of Jewish customs and traditions.
- Proven experience in successful program management, including excellent organizational and analytic Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience marketing programs, utilizing a variety of marketing approaches to reach intended audiences.
- Experience developing program budgets and monitoring performance in relation to service provision and fee generation.
Required Education and Experience
- Ph.D. degree in field related to child/family work, e.g. psychology, social work, education or equivalent required.
- At least three years’ experience providing training and educational programs to professional audiences. Experience with both in person and remote programming.
- At least two years’ experience conducting or supporting research in the field of child development. Knowledge of research methods and practice.
