1. Submit an Application for Naturalization (Form N-400) to the INS, with the $250 application fee* ($225 for applicants 75 years of age and older), two photos, and a copy of your greencard (front and back). Some time after receiving your application, INS will send you a notice indicating the INS location where you should go for fingerprinting and the time period in which you should appear. You must bring this notice when you come for fingerprinting. INS will submit the fingerprint card to the FBI to check whether you have committed a crime which might disqualify you from citizenship.
   
   
2. **Be interviewed by an INS officer when you are scheduled for an appointment.
   
   
3. If you are approved for citizenship by the INS, take the Oath of Allegiance to the United States of America.

**If you have already passed the written citizenship exam, you will not be required to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of U.S. history and principles of government at the time of your interview. You will also have fulfilled the requirement to write ordinary English words and phrases (though not necessarily the requirement to speak and understand ordinary English words and phrases).
