Being an Israeli In The US: Is it what you thought it would be? What really happens when you arrive in the US? Who will help you with the gap between the dream and the reality? At JFCS we will help you with everything you wanted to know and did not even know to ask.
JFCS is here to help you cope with the reality of AMERICA through support for all members of the family and children of all ages. When people joke about Israel being the 51st state of the US (did you know that there are 50 states?) they minimize the fact that being an Israeli in the US is not as simple as one might think it is going to be.
The 'culture clash' for all members of the family, from language to customs to attitudes and expectations, all come with stress. It is hard for the adult who brought the family here (who might feel very responsible); it is hard for the adult who 'accompanied' here (who might feel unprepared and alone); it is hard for parents to help the children adjust while needing to adjust themselves to new jobs and new rules; it is hard for the kids to find their place in the schoolyard and the neighborhood and see their parents unsure of themselves.
