Jewish Family and Children's Services provides:
  • Information and referral for people who are in relationships where domestic violence is an issue.
  • Information and referral for people who want to volunteer in the area of domestic violence.
  • Support, counseling, and advocacy for families and individuals who have issues around domestic violence.
One in five women will be abused by a partner at some point in their lives.
Up to half of the homeless women and children living on the streets are homeless because they are running from a domestic violence situation.
Almost one-third of the women who are treated in hospital emergency rooms are there because of injuries sustained during an altercation with their abuser. And, approximately one-third of the women who are murdered each year were killed by their abuser.
Abuse in same-sex relationships occurs at the same rate as with the population at large.
Domestic violence occurs in the Jewish community as frequently as in non-Jewish relationships. However, Jewish women tend to stay in abusive relationships 5-7 years longer than their non-Jewish counterparts.

Check out the JFCS Individuals & Couples Resource Library for links and articles related to domestic violence-especially our Domestic Violence Resources Guide which is a comprehensive list of Bay Area contacts and resources. To access the library, please click here.
