JFCS offers many programs and services for individuals under age 60 with chronic illness or disabilities.

JFCS MEALS Delivery Program
Meals are delivered weekly--one frozen meal per day plus a bag of groceries/produce. The program provides to individuals (under age 60) who have a chronic illness or physical disability that precludes them from cooking and/or shopping.

Case Management
JFCS' professional staff offers evaluations, develops plans and coordinates services to help people with disabilities or chronic illnesses maintain their optimal level of independence.

Information and Referral
JFCS social workers can provide comprehensive information related to disabilities, with particular emphasis on benefits counseling, as well as vocational, educational and community resources.

Advocacy
JFCS social workers help people apply for and maintain benefits, including SSI, SSDI, SSA, general assistance, Medi-Cal, Medicare and in-home support services. Assistance is also available for people dealing with issues of accessibility - especially those who need help to attend Jewish community services and events.

Attendant Care Referral
Trained home care attendants are available through JFCS to assist with personal care, shopping, cooking, laundry and driving.

Individual and Family Counseling
Social workers experienced in working with people with disabilities and chronic illnesses address clients' individual concerns as well as problems that arise within the family.

Children's Counseling
Therapy for children with disabilities or chronic illnesses, as well as their families, is provided in conjunction with JFCS' Parents Place.

Support Groups
Ongoing support groups are offered for people under age 60 with physical disabilities or chronic illness, to discuss issues of self-esteem, coping strategies, changing roles and body image within a Jewish context. Pre-screening interview required. Sliding fee scale.

Volunteer Program
Volunteers offer companionship and limited practical help to clients who have no other resources for support.

Chicken Soupers
In collaboration with Congregation Sherith Israel and Congregation Beth Shalom, JFCS volunteers deliver Jewish "soul food" twice monthly.

Emergency Financial Assistance
Grants and loans are available for emergency food and shelter.
