Management Group & Workshop Leaders Counseling Parent Coaching and Consultation


Susan Byrd, LCSW, is a Child & Family Therapist and Workshop Leader with Parents Place, San Francisco.
Susan studied at Boston University and at the Kantor Institute for Family Therapy in Boston. Prior to her tenure at Jewish Family and Children's Services she worked as a social worker at Ross Hospital in Marin, serving children, adolescents and adults in the psychiatric inpatient section. Susan is the mother of two children ages 5 and 6.

Jeni Clancy is Early Childhood Development Specialist and Playroom Coordinator with Parents Place, San Francisco.
Jeni joined the Parents Place staff in 2002 and has brought consistency and excitement to our parent/child activity groups and has been instrumental in revitalizing our Drop-in Center. She has led children's groups at several synagogues and other Jewish organizations throughout the Bay Area, including Congregations Beth Sholom, Sha'ar Zahav and Sherith Israel in San Francisco. Jeni launched "Look! I Can Cook!" which is currently one of our most popular groups.

Dede Estey, MA, is a Marriage & Family Therapist and Single Again Group Facilitator with Parents Place, San Francisco.
Dede holds a Masters in Clinical Psychology and a Diploma in Pastoral and Psychodynamic Counseling as well as a Montessori International Teachers Diploma. She worked with Anna Freud at the Anna Freud Nursery School in London, England. She also worked for the Talk Line of the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center as a supervisor and clinician. She is the mother of two grown children.

Ira Fateman, CFP, M.Ed., is a Workshop Leader with Parents Place, San Francisco.
Ira is a Registered Investment Advisor. He holds a BS in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University, an M.Ed. in Counseling from Northeastern University, and a certificate in personal financial planning from UC Berkeley Extension. He lectures and leads workshops in financial planning for families all over the Bay Area.

Keith Kapash, MFTI, is a Child & Family Therapist Intern and Parent Educator with Parents Place, San Francisco.
Keith graduated with honors from Dominican University in San Rafael. Prior to coming to Parents Place, Keith was a therapist and caseworker with Full Circle Programs in San Rafael, serving at risk youth and their families. Keith works from a strength-based approach with families and draws on his extensive cultural immersion experiences to provide culturally competent counseling.

Robert Scott, MSW, is a Parent Educator with Parents Place, San Francisco.
Robert is a pioneer in the field of Father Support, and is involved both locally and nationally in the Father Support movement. He has a Master's degree in Social Welfare from the University of Utah, is a certified Parent Education Teacher, and has taught Parent Education classes throughout the Bay Area for over 20 years. He developed the popular "Parents Place Lecture Series," dealing with integral stages of children's development, and the "All About Boys!" workshop curricula. He specializes in providing support and guidance to parents through individual coaching and consultation sessions.

Lee Ann Slaton, MS, is the Education Coordinator with Parents Place, San Francisco.
Lee Ann has been the Education Coordinator for Parents Place since 1987. She is a recognized expert in the field of Early Childhood and Parent Education, and is frequently contacted by local media to provide insight on parenting issues. Ms. Slaton holds a Masters degree in Counseling and a Secondary Teaching Credential from San Francisco State University, and has presented family-related workshops and lectures to schools, childcare centers and work sites for over 25 years. Lee Ann has developed many of our most popular groups and workshops, including "New Mother New Baby," "Choosing a Preschool" and "Choosing a Kindergarten."

Janet Sollod, M.D., is a Parent Educator with Parents Place, San Francisco.
You could say that Dr. Janet Sollod, who leads our "Newborn Parenting for Expectant Parents" workshops, went into the family business - she and her father, Dr. Mitchell Sollod, share a space in the Stonestown Medical Building. But the San Francisco native says the decision to go into pediatrics was entirely her own. "What drew me was the patient interaction," she says. "If we help children grow healthy, they can achieve their potential."

Lesley Sternin, MSW, LCSW, is the Director of the Child Trauma Training Institute with Parents Place, San Francisco.
Lesley has been in the mental health field for over 25 years. She has been a psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, teacher and administrator in private, public and non- profit settings. She has expertise in working with adults, couples and families, teaching and training therapists, and early childhood mental health and trauma. Prior to joining Parents Place, Lesley was the Program Manager of the Clinical Program and then the Early Childhood Mental Health Program at Family Paths in the East Bay. She has maintained a private practice in the East Bay since 1988.

Pnina Tobin, MPA, is a Parent Educator with Parents Place, San Francisco.
Pnina has been a Parent Educator for over 30 years. She is a single mother who participated in the creation of MOMMA, an organization and newspaper for single mothers founded in 1973. Using her training and experience in parent education, she started One-Parent Family Education, which provided parent education and support for single parents from diverse cultures and lifestyles. After relocating to San Francisco in 1980, she founded and directed The Children's Self-Help Project, providing personal safety programs for parents and teachers, children and youth, and children with disabilities. www.ParentingSafeKids.com.

Amy Weiss, MS, MFT, is the Director of Parents Place, San Francisco.
Amy Weiss has been the director of Parents Place San Francisco since September of 2006. She is a licensed marriage family and child counselor with more than 30 years of experience working with adults, couples, families and children, and she has expertise in infant-parent mental health, bereavement, disabilities, health psychology, and Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). Prior to joining Parents Place Amy was the Director of Clinical Services and Training at Jewish Family and Children's Services of the East Bay. She has also worked at Hospice of San Francisco, Through the Looking Glass, and the World Institute on Disability, and has maintained a private practice since 1986.

Lisa Caper, LCSW, is the Clinical Director of Parents Place, San Francisco.
Lisa Caper is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has worked with children and families in San Francisco for over eighteen years. She has worked extensively with the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) as a Mental Health assessor for children in Special Education programs and has served as an advocate for parents of children with Special Needs who are students in the SFUSD. In addition, Lisa has developed numerous programs for children and adolescents in San Francisco, including pregnancy prevention programs and Financial Literacy Programs.
