Appreciated Stocks
How can you make a secure long-term investment in today's volatile stock market? By investing in the welfare of the community through JFCS. A gift of long-term appreciated marketable stocks or securities will help you save taxes twice. Such a gift will provide an income-tax charitable deduction and capital gains tax savings. Real Estate
When you give a gift of your home or real property to JFCS, you may claim an income-tax charitable deduction based on the full market value of the gift, avoid capital gains taxes, and eliminate certain costs associated with the transfer of real property. Gifts of real estate can also provide income to you. To learn more about donating real estate to JFCS, contact our Director of Development at (415) 449-1222 or ClaireA@jfcs.org.
Cars, Furniture, Household Goods or Personal Property
You may wish to give JFCS items in good condition that no longer fill your needs, but may be exactly what someone in our community needs. JFCS accepts a wide variety of such gifts, including clothing, non-perishable food and personal care items, furniture, automobiles, works of art and other items. To donate cars, furniture, or household goods, click here. To discuss donating works of art or other unique personal property to JFCS, contact our Director of Development at (415) 449-1222 or ClaireA@jfcs.org.
Pledges
A pledge is a formal statement of intention to make a gift to JFCS. It may be followed by an immediate gift, or it may simply confirm your intention to make a gift in the future. Many donors choose to complete their gift pledge by making regular payments over a period of time. To make a pledge to JFCS, call (415) 449-1222 or ClaireA@jfcs.org.
Life Income Gifts
You can make a gift to JFCS that allows you to hold an interest in that gift for your lifetime or for a specified term of years. After that time, the funds become available to JFCS. For example, you can set up a charitable trust which allows you to receive income from that trust for a specified period, or for life. When you make your gift, you not only receive an immediate tax deduction, but you also have the satisfaction of knowing that the plans you make today will help to support JFCS for the generations to follow. Matching Gifts
Many businesses have demonstrated their support for JFCS by matching, or multiplying, their employees' gifts to us, up to a set amount. Before you make a gift, you may want to ask whether your employer participates in such a program. Certain restrictions apply to matching gifts; please consult your company's personnel office for further information.
Endowment Gifts
An endowment gift is maintained in perpetuity, and only a portion of the annual investment return is used for the purposes specified by the donor. The rest of the investment yield is returned to principal. Thus, over the years, the fund can grow and hopefully keep pace with inflation. Such endowments, which typically bear the name of the donor or loved ones, reflect your interests and serve as an enduring testament to your generosity. Planned Legacy Gifts
Planned gifts are gift arrangements that have specific tax advantages and often include lifetime income to a beneficiary or beneficiaries named by the donor. Or a planned gift may be as simple as a bequest made through your will or living trust. Many JFCS donors have utilized planned giving methods and are enjoying such income benefits today as capital gains and estate tax savings and increased income from their assets. A planned gift maximizes your giving potential and can even allow you to ensure your future financial security or that of a loved one. To learn more about making a planned legacy gift to JFCS, including bequests, retirement plan and life insurance gifts, Named Continuity Funds, Donor Advised Funds, and Life Income Gifts, go to the JFCS Permanent Endowment Fund homepage.
