Lillian, a 94-year-old widow, lives alone on a very meager income. Although Lillian is
still mentally alert, she has poor vision and is at risk for falls. To reduce the chance
of this occurring, Seniors·At·Home sent a home safety assessment team to evaluate her
apartment. They removed loose scatter rugs and clutter and dramatically improved the
lighting. They also arranged for Lillian to receive a physical therapy assessment and
purchased new support shoes for her.
Because her declining vision makes daily activities difficult, Lillian's care manager set
up homecare services to help Lillian with bathing, housekeeping, laundry and grocery
shopping. She also signed her up for the JFCS Kosher-Meals-On-Wheels home meal delivery
service and the daily "Safe-At-Home" phone check-in, got her large print books and audio
tapes from the Jewish Braille Institute, and arranged for Lillian to use the
Seniors·At·Home escort service for her transportation needs. And she continues to
monitor Lillian's progress through weekly phone conversations and monthly home visits.
Since Lillian's biggest fear had been that she wouldn't be able to continue to live in
her own home, she's thrilled with the help she's received from Seniors·At·Home. "I've
lived in this apartment for almost 40 years and it would break my heart to leave,"
explains Lillian. "Now with all these people helping me, I don't have to."
